Admission Guidelines

The entrance examinations of the Global Frontier in Life Science are held in winter. For applicants who plan to apply for the admission for October, 2024 and April, 2025, please refer to the following information.

To apply, you will need to do the following by January 10 (Wed) 2024:

1. Contact AAO
2. Contact the lab head (your prospective mentor) by email
   Faculty member list
3. Send your application so it arrives no later than January 10 (Wed) 2024

The full application includes:

• 2a. Transcripts from your university
• 2b. At least two recommendation letters
• 2c. The application form and fee (see below)
• 2d. A valid TOEFL or IELTS score (required)
• 2e. A valid GRE General test and Subject test (A General Test score is optional. Any scores of the Subject Test are also optional. Acceptable test includes: Chemistry/Physics))

Before filing the application, please refer to the page of For prospective students and contact the Kyoto University Admissions Assistance Office (AAO) to complete the designated process. Afterwards, you may contact the lab heads to fully discuss potential research activities and availability.

For those who are required to undergo provisional eligibility screening, contact the Student Affairs Section (150kyomu -at- adm.lif.kyoto-u.ac.jp) of the Graduate School of Biostudies to obtain the designated forms for provisional eligibility screening at any time, but no later than November 8(Wed) 2023.

For those who passed the first preliminary test of the MEXT (Monbukagakusho: Japanese Government) Scholarship Embassy Recommendation, please refer to the following university website and contact AAO as soon as possible.
