Finding a general principle on macromolecular traffic through the nuclear pore

There are a number of proteins in the human protein database that contain repetitive amphiphilic structural motifs; i.e. coiled-coil, spectrin repeat, HEAT repeat, Arm repeat, leucine-rich repeat, etc. We are trying to elucidate the ability of these proteins to pass through the NPC. Especially, there a number of HEAT motif-containing proteins which do not belong to karyopherin family. We are focusing on the function of these proteins, especially by shedding light on their ability to pass through the NPC by themselves and to help other protein’s passage.
