Kinkaku-ji Temple






Kinkaku-ji (the Golden Pavilion) is the old Zen (*) temple, and Official name is Rokuon-ji. In 1397, Yoshimitsu Ashikaga, the 3rd Ashikaga shogun (1358-1408), started building. Kinkaku was formally called Shariden. In 1994, UNESCO listed Rokuon-ji as a World Heritage site.


* Zen: a Japanese from the Buddhism. It was imported via China Kamakura period (1185-1333).
