Ginkaku-ji (the Silver Pavilion) is the old Zen(*) temple, and Official name is Tozan Jisyo-ji. In 1482, Yoshimasa Ashikaga, the 8th Ashikaga shogun (1435-1490), started building the villa residence in Higashiyama- area. Ginkaku-ji was inspired by Kinkaku-ji built by Yoshimasafs grandfather, Yoshimitsu Ashikaga, and building was completed after he died. It was changed to temple, Jisyo-ji. In 1994, UNESCO listed Ginkaku-ji as a World Heritage site.
Kannnon-holl or Ginkaku: This was established in Muromachi period (1392-1573). Yoshimasa wanted to paint silver in the Ginkaku as the Kinkaku, but he did not money enough to do. Because war (Onin no ran) occurred, so this was painted only lacquer.
Togu-do: Togu-do is symbol of Shoin-zukuri style that is style of Japanese tea ceremony room. If you enter Ginkaku-ji, you could feel e Zenf or eWabif eSabif as Japanese feeling.
* Zen: a Japanese from the Buddhism. It was imported via China Kamakura period (1185-1333).
