In 794, To-ji was built, and official name is Kyo-ou-gokokuji. In 1994, UNESCO listed Toji temple as a World Heritage site. It is very famous of the five-story pagoda in To-ji temple. This pagoda is a symbol of KYOTO. Current building of this pagoda was rebuilt in Edo period (1596-1868), and 55 m high.
To-ji temple was used for guesthouse building at 1st, but the monk Kukai changed it to temple in 823.
Nadia-mon gate: Nadia-mon gate is main gate of temple. This was removed from Sanjyu-sangen-do(*) in 1895.
Ko-do hall: Ko-do hall was rebuilt in 1491 and the important cultural assets. There are 21 Buddha statues, Mandara (Buddhism picture) in this hall.
Kon-do hall: This building was completed in 1606 and the important cultural assets. There are 3 Buddha statues.
