Group Discussion

Date and Time: March 7th, 2012 (Wednesday) 10:30 - 15:00
Place: Shiran Kaikan (Yamauchi Hall)
Language: English

Details:
Group discussion sessions will take placed on the Third Day of 10th ISS. Briefly, about 5 to 6 participants including students or Postdocs from overseas will be grouped together and each person will have a turn to talk about his/her current research project for 15 Minutes (5 Minutes Presentation and 10 Minutes Discussion). The other group members are free to ask questions and exchange their opinions about the discussed topics. First session will be held in the morning, and then second session will be held in the afternoon with different group members.@Researchers will be grouped together in a random manner regardless of their research backgrounds or interests. Therefore, it is important to make your presentation simple and clear by avoiding specialized terms and nomenclature. Instead of trying to include a large quantity of results in your presentation, discussion about the interests and significance of your research should be focused to lighten up the atmosphere and inspire young students in the group.
To facilitate discussion, it is recommendable to prepare visual materials using your own laptop, handouts printed on A4 paper or you can sketch out ideas on blank paper. The purpose of this session is to create scientific interactions and brainstorming on on-going projects. Moreover, Japanese students should be encouraged to improve their English communication skills and may use this opportunity to make friends with people from different national and cultural backgrounds. We hope that you will enjoy this event and that you are able to expand your horizons by participating this group discussion session.

Materials:
You can use your own laptop or handouts printed on A4 paper; alternatively, you may sketch freehand on blank paper or use any other portable materials you like.
