1.Group Seminar (Round Table Discussion in Small Groups)

Details:
In groups of five, participants will present one theme relevant to their research, then discuss questions arising from the presentation with other participants. Groups will be determined at random, without considering participants’ fields, so presenters are asked to make their presentations as clear as possible, to avoid technical terms, and to assume limited background knowledge.
Time (for each participant):
Presentation 5 minutes; questions and discussion 15 minutes.
Materials:
Presenters can use handouts, a PC, or any other materials they wish.
2.Overnight Retreat

One night and two days from Friday March 5 to Saturday March 6 2010

Omuro Hall, Ninnaji temple

Fee:
5000yen, but participants on the sightseeing tour will need a small amount of money for public transport.

Details:
Staying in Omuro hall, on the grounds of the world-heritage listed Ninnaji temple, participants will have the chance to communicate across laboratories, borders and language. We are planning a casual seminar (discussing research and lab life based on the survey participants fill out beforehand) as well as sightseeing in the Sagano and Arashiyama districts of Kyoto.
